Webinar # 12 - The 4 Sons Of Heru

Canopic Jars were used by the Ancient Kemites during the mummification process, to store and preserve the internal organs of their owner in the afterlife.

Canopic Jars are four decorated clay pots, each with a different head of the 4 sons of Heru's. These gods were:

1. Hapi - the baboon who protected the lungs.
2. Qebehnsenuf - the falcon who guarded the intestines.
3. Duamatef - the jackal who guarded the stomach.
4. Imsety - the human guarded the liver.
